Lone Pine Hotel

Penang

Being amongst one of the first hotels in Batu Feringghi, Penang, the original Lone Pine Hotel was established in 1948. It is located on a beautiful patch of beach – away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The idea of being the only boutique hotel along the island’s coastline led to ‘spaces’ being explored rather unconventionally. These spaces were designed not just as physical envelopes, but rather emotional connectors between man and nature. The first refurbishment in 1998 retained much of the original ‘colonial charm’. With the advent of this second refurbishment, the challenge was to somehow retain the spirit and values of the original whilst injecting the place with a new lease of life and to imbue it with a contemporary yet exclusive feel and image.

The design embraces its natural setting with sumptuous lobbies and open terraces. Openness and intimacy are balanced to create a peaceful and serene atmosphere. Guestrooms are orientated to exploit the panoramic sea views. Designed to open out to a balcony or private courtyard, the guestrooms breathe in the refreshing sea breeze. The partnership between beach, ocean and Casuarinas comes to the fore with the architecture acting only as a backdrop.

Rooms are designed to suit families, couples as well as solitary guests. Luxurious spaces are filled with modern furniture and fittings set against the most basic of finishes in subtle earthy tones. Combined with exclusively designed soft furnishings, this creates a unique atmosphere and perfect balance between luxury and homely familiarity. Facilities and amenities such as the swimming pools, spa, bars and restaurants are arranged to complement and frame the vista, being careful always to avoid or distract in any way the natural beauty of the place.
