YONG RESIDENCE
1994 – Kuala Lumpur
Private Residence
This house was an attempt to understand the nature of dwelling. As such, its objective was twofold: first, as a means of relating the human experience to its context of landscpe and climate, and second, in the way it reveals the workings and weathering of the sun, wind and rain in its details. The manner in which rainwater is gathered and deposited, pools of sunlight in the heart of the house as an indication of the weather outside, the aeration of liliy ponds from downspouts, deep overhangs to allow dining in the breeze of an afternoon shower: these represent the spirit with which this project was conceived and built.
