KKR2 Tower
Kuala Lumpur
Kompleks Kerja Raya 2 (KKR2) is a 6-block office complex masterplan located on a 1-million sq. ft. site at Jalan Sultan Salahuddin, Kuala Lumpur. KKR2 Tower provides 37 levels of office space for Jabatan Kerja Raya (JKR), creating a centralized location for JKR’s growing workforce and enhancing its image. The ‘diamond’ facade concept symbolizes Kompleks Kerja Raya’s role as ‘a diamond in the crown’ of the Malaysian construction industry, positioning it as a ‘Diamond in KL City.’ The 37-level structure, including basement parking, is topped by an independent roof canopy at a height of 175 meters.
A separate but connected 9-level podium car park features rooftop dining. The tower’s design includes 10 circular columns slanting in two directions, mirrored on sides A and B, with the radius decreasing upwards. The front columns are the straightest, while the rear are the most angled. Facade C curves in two planes, forming a parabolic geometry that causes the tower to curve inward at the middle levels and outward toward the roof. The tower consists of three facades: sides A and B are mirrored, with side C at the rear.
Each level features a unique floor plate, with the geometry gradually shifting skyward. The triangular footprint tapers into leaf-shaped upper levels. Facades A and B are constructed using a unitized facade system, with 3,124 unique units. To meet each floor slab, every unitized frame shifts angle in two planes, twisting so that rectangular frames are split diagonally, resulting in triangular triple-glazed components.
Tilting these triangles inward within the frame allows the facade to incrementally adapt to the shifting geometry, level by level, creating the curved structure. The east-west glazing orientation on facades A and B allows natural sun shading through glazing details and external mounted ‘fin’ elements. Each fin acts as both a shading and design feature, enhancing the curvature and verticality of the building. The green terraced roof offers uninterrupted views, with sun shading provided by the canopy above and rainwater harvesting at the rear. The louvered canopy and 50% open glazing at the front allow airflow and weather protection for visitors to one of KL’s highest gardens.
KKR2 Tower is recognized as Malaysia’s first certified high-rise office building under the Green Building Index (GBI), receiving a Platinum rating, the highest classification for Green Buildings under the GBI.
