Tzu Chi International School

Kuala Lumpur

Tzu Chi International School, located in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur, features a design with symmetrical primary and secondary blocks connected by a 7-storey atrium. Both blocks have their own courtyards, with classrooms arranged around these spaces. Wide, covered walkways minimize glare and maximize cross-ventilation, while vent blocks enhance natural airflow in common areas.

The modern, thin-profile concave roof, clad in aluminum panels, adds a contemporary touch. The school is designed for energy efficiency, aiming for a Silver GBI rating with a focus on sustainability. Soft landscaping and water bodies help reduce heat, cooling the building naturally. The large courtyards maximize daylight and ventilation, and most rooms offer direct views of the outdoors through large windows. The 7-storey atrium encourages cross and stack ventilation, minimizing the need for air conditioning.

The design promotes humanistic values through open, nature-connected spaces, encouraging interaction between students and teachers. With the addition of a sports hall, this biophilic approach extends to physical activities, seamlessly integrating the school’s educational philosophy throughout the environment.
